The role of thrombopoietin receptor agonists in the management of adult primary immune thrombocytopenia: A single centre experience

Background/Aim. The availability of thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-RA) for treating primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) has transformed its management over the last decade. aim this study was to assess efficacy TPO-RA in adults with chronic ITP treated at University Clinical Center Serbia. Methods. A total 28 adult patients ( 10 m ales and 18 females), who were given eltrombopag and/or romiplostim, enrolled study. Data on demographic characteristics, duration, previous therapeutic modalities, comorbidities, concomitant therapy both comorbidities ITP, indications TPO-RA, bleeding episodes before during doses, adverse events, response rates collected from patients? medical records. TPO-RAs administered refractory when splenectomy contraindicated/unfeasible as preparation splenectomy. Favorable treatment defined a stable platelet count ? 50 109/L. Results. 22 (78.57%) 14 (50.0%) respectively. good (GTR) achieved 81.8% receiving 71.4% those romiplostim. non-responders (4 patients) had lost their switched Six 8 GTR. At time initiation, 46.4% used therapy, which ceased all following effects registered: transaminitis transient ischemic attack one patient each, pulmonary embolism romiplostim-treated patient. Conclusion. Our showed that are an effective safe option since majority remission without episodes.
